Hello Friends!
I hope you had a good week. I did. Now comes the Fourth of July weekend! I certainly hope it's a good weekend for everyone.
Here is the next letter from Edna:
As always here is what it says:
March 19, 1926
Hello There Howard,
I received your letter
the other day and seemed
kind of nice to read it.
Now what do you
mean by saying all
that "mushy" stuff to
me in letters. It's not
so bad speaking personally
But?!!!
Julia came over Tuesday
evening. I almost fell
over. I did not expect
her in the least.
2
She stayed with me that
evening. Didn't go to sleep
until around 3 o'clock.
We went to a show at
the "Keystone", but came
home early. Wednesday
night Ernest took me
to see "Lights of Old
Broadway". Sure was
good. Marion Davies
plays in that.
yesterday Julia came
up to the office to see
me for a moment
Right after she left
Ernest came. He took
me to luncheon. While
3
I was to lunch Gladys
came & called for me.
She met Julia just as
one was going in an
elevator & one coming
out. Quite queer, eh?
So, Gladys came & went
shopping with me. When
we met Julia around
4 o'clock. We all went
& had dinner & went
home. Then we went to
a dance at the "Marigold
Gardens." I feel as tho'
I was in need of a
nap like Rip Van Winkle
Ha!--------------
Tonight Stella, a girl
friend of mine is coming
over.
Last Saturday night we
were both down stairs &
the boys came down. Those
University fellows I told you
about). We moved the table
in dining room & started
Radio going & danced the
Charleston & everything else.
Sure had a swell time.
I hear you go to see
Luella almost everyday.
Well, I wish you good
luck.
I'm in the rest room on
my lunch hour. Excuse
C.P.S. stationery.
Greet everybody
Edna.

Those pictures
got rotten
Well it sounded like she kept herself very busy in Chicago. If she was not working she was seeing plays, dancing and shopping.
Boy would I like to have seen what he wrote. He almost sounds like he might have been a kind of a hound dog or maybe a kind of Romeo want to be. I also wonder how often he saw Luella.
I found a little info on Marigold Gardens.
At that time it had two dance halls. One featuring popular bands while the other was dedicated to waltzes.
From 1931 to 1962 it became a boxing & wrestling arena.
In 1963 the property was purchased and remodeled by the Faith Tabernacle church. The original gardens are now the church parking lot. Parts of the original hall remains in a testament to the Marigold Gardens.
The play or show she saw " Lights of Old Broadway"
Marion Davis
She played twins separated at birth. Anne becomes a society girl in New York while her sister, Fely, becomes an Irish poor girl turning to the musical world. Anne's half brother falls in love with the poor sister. Anne's family owns the slum where Fely lives.
I think I've already did a bit on the Charleston. So you should know how it goes.
This is the building I think she worked in. Carson Pirie Scott & Co. in Chicago.
It sounds kind of strange to have stationary in the girls rest room. I wonder if it was a "restroom" or if that was the name of the spot you could eat at. I wonder if I will ever find out.
Here are a few random pictures for you to see.
No idea where this one was taken. I wonder where the Murray Hotel was?
This postcard was copyrighted in 1925. It's a picture near Mellen, Wis.
This is a postcard. No idea if it was someones place of just a picture of a certain place,
Well that's about all I have for you today.
I hope you have a great 4th Of July, and stay safe.
Till next time.
Your friend,
Sandy
